It's a nonconformity because the flat-lying Tapeats Sandstone (~525 Ma) sits atop the Vishnu metamorphic complex (~1.7 - 1.8 Ga). From the South Kaibab Trail, you can see a sliver of the Colorado River, as well as Plateau Point and a bit of the Bright Angel Trail winding its way up toward Indian Gardens.
