In the foreground, note the angular unconformity where the flat-lying Tapeats Sandstone (~525 Ma) rests on top of tilted Unkar Group sedimentary rocks (~1.1 - 1.2 Ga). Bright Angel Campground, where we were to spend the next two nights, is at lower left corner. We still had 1500 of elevation to lose to get there.
